Who Are We?
Cobalt Technology was founded in 2016 by two friends, Brandon and Matt, under the name Cobalt Ridge. Starting off with no money in the bank, they managed to land a few network overhaul jobs for two churches in Wichita Falls and a business in San Antonio. Not really knowing what to do next with the company, Brandon started to realize that internet service in the rural areas surrounding Wichita Falls was nearly non-existent, unlike what he was used to in The Woodlands where he grew up and graduated High School. Starting with just an idea, the two founders of the fledgling company put their heads together to see if it was possible to send high-quality internet service wirelessly over several miles, since the cost of laying cables was out of reach. It turns out, it is possible!
After 8 months of planning, researching, and number-crunching, Brandon and Matt used the money they had gotten from the first few network overhaul jobs to purchase some wireless radios, antennas, cables, routers, and a 1-year lease on a 440ft communications tower in Wichita Falls.
The original goal was to get just 10 customers to pay the bills so Brandon could have internet at his house, but very quickly the calls started coming in, and they didn’t stop! Cobalt has seen tremendous growth since their first internet customer was installed in February of 2018, and the company has gone through many major technology improvements over the years in its mission to stay at the forefront of technology.
In 2023, Cobalt launched gigabit internet service, competing head-to-head with the national companies that have had a stranglehold on the Greater Wichita Falls area for decades. In 2024, the name of the company was changed from Cobalt Ridge to Cobalt Technology to reflect the next chapter in the innovation ahead. In addition to offering gigabit internet service to hundreds of residential and business locations around the area, Cobalt Technology went back to its roots by offering IT services once more, including Wi-Fi, firewalls, security cameras, door access, and more, all backed by the one-of-a-kind InfinityConnect 100% uptime-guarantee service for businesses!
